AnswerWhy grades the reasoning you bring to a practice question. This page says, in plain language, what we keep, what we never keep, who can see it, and how to remove it. Where the code does something, this page describes the code.
What you give us
A practice question (typed or as a screenshot), the answer you picked, and your reasoning. Optionally a short profile about yourself (your level, goals, weak areas), your reply-section settings, and follow-up questions during a session. If you sign in, your email address and a sign-in provider identity.
What we never store
The question text and the screenshot. They are sent to the grading model for the duration of one grade and are not written to our database, our logs, or any backup. When you reopen a past session the question is not there, on purpose. Follow-up messages you write are kept, but any sentence in them that repeats the question word for word is dropped before saving.
We do not build a question bank, share anything between accounts, or use what you send to train a model.
What we store, and why
- Your grades. For each session: the coach’s verdict and its written sections, the failure code, the topic, the date, and the short quote of your own words the verdict rested on. This is what History, Review, and Progress read.
- Your settings. Which reply sections run, verbosity and effort, and your profile text.
- Usage events. That a grade happened, when, and for which account. No content.
- Free trial without an account. A one-way hash of your network address (never the address itself) with a count of trial questions, and for each trial grade the coach’s sections, the verdict and topic, whether a screenshot was attached, and the quote of your own words. Trial grades are deleted after 30 days.
- Refusals. If a submission looks like content from a live or secure exam, the coach declines to grade it and we record that a refusal happened and why, without the content.
Who can see it
You, through your account. Each person’s rows are protected by database rules that only let the signed-in owner read them. A grading model provider processes the question, screenshot, and reasoning to produce the grade; that processing is transient and governed by their terms, and they receive no account identifiers from us.
Operator review. When you flag a line of the coach’s audit as wrong, the flagged claim, your objection, and the coach’s reply may be reviewed by the AnswerWhy team to improve the grading engine. Flagged claims never include question text. Aggregate, de-identified usage numbers (how many grades per day, which topics are missed most) are visible to the team.
We email you only for sign-in codes and, if you turn it on, a weekly summary of your own aggregates. The weekly summary is off by default, every message carries an unsubscribe link, and turning it off in Settings stops it immediately. We never email question text.
Your controls
- Delete any session from History; the row is removed.
- Edit or clear your profile and settings at any time.
- Delete your account by writing to the address below; every row tied to it is deleted with it (the database cascades on account deletion).
Cookies
A sign-in cookie keeps you signed in. A preference in your browser’s local storage remembers dark mode and, when you are not signed in, your reply-section settings. No advertising or cross-site tracking.
